These Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes are the perfect side dish. Creamy yukon gold potatoes are mashed together with ghee and almond milk and finished with chives and garlic oil. The result is creamy, rich, and so flavorful! Gluten free with a low FODMAP option.
I'm trying to get you prepared for Thanksgiving. These potatoes are too good to only have once a year though. I hope you don't consider them only for Thanksgiving. They would be perfect along side a crispy roasted chicken or under a pot roast.
Are Potatoes Paleo?
Every time I post a recipe with white potatoes I get a comment that they aren't paleo. Or that I am misleading everyone by calling that recipe paleo. White potatoes are definitely paleo! This is a great article explaining more why potatoes are considered paleo and if you can tolerate them then eat away. Enjoy!
Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes
The use of ghee and unsweetened almond milk make these completely dairy free. The ghee adds great richness and buttery flavor and because it has the lactose and casein removed, it is dairy free. If there is a dairy allergy or to make vegan, use butter flavored coconut oil. It has that same buttery taste and is made with no animal products.
Another dairy free milk can also be used if desired or working around a nut allergy. Oat or coconut are both great options.
The best potato for mashed potatoes
These mashed potatoes are made with Yukon Gold Potatoes because they make the best mashed potato. And bonus: no need to peel them! That makes it so much easier and quicker. Of course, if you prefer peeled potatoes you can do that as well.
Russet potatoes are super popular and on great sale this time of year, so feel free to use those. I just suggest peeling them first as the skin in tougher.
Instant Pot Option
These can be made in the Instant Pot or on the stove top so you can have options. I prefer the Instant Pot because it was so quick and easy and mostly hands off. If you have an IP then you have to try them that way! It's also nice to have more stove space on Thanksgiving Day when so may dishes are being made.
You will love these Dairy Free Mashed Potatoes because they are easy to make and a healthy take on the classic side dish. Rich, creamy, and flavorful.

Fyi: ghee is not dairy free. It’s lactose free. Just wanted to help because a lot of people seem think ghee is dairy free. I’m excited to make this recipe, but without ghee
Jessica DeMay says
It's lactose and casein free which means people that can't tolerate dairy can have it, but if it's an allergy then they can't. This will definitely work well with coconut oil.

I made these for dinner tonight and they were fabulous!! I consider myself a mashed potato connoisseur (snob!) so I was a little leery. But they were so good. I told my husband that I would challenge anyone at Thanksgiving to tell the difference between these and regular mashed potatoes!

I'm guessing that "1/4 chives" means 1/4 cup? These do indeed look delicious!
