This Paleo Pumpkin Chili and Spider Hot Dogs are two individual meals that both kids and adults will love. The chili is Whole30 compliant and the hot dogs are a fun paleo treat.

If you are looking for what to have Halloween night, I have got you covered. Chili is basically the perfect food for after being out in the cold. This pumpkin chili is creamy, thick, and so delicious! It has chopped up Teton Waters Ranch Hardwood Smoked Beef Sausage in it which is reminiscent of the classic chili and hotdog pairing.
I used ground turkey for the meat which I think works the best with the pumpkin and sausage. You can definitely use ground beef if you want though. I think it's important to note that there is NO pumpkin spice in this chili. I will bring you all the pumpkin spice desserts, but no pumpkin spice chili. You're welcome! This chili is Whole30, but not the spider dogs. I have Instant Pot and stove top instructions below as well as how to make it low fodmap.
These Spider Hot Dogs are so fun and my 3 year old love helping me make and eat them. I promise they are super easy. I love to bake, but I am not crafty at all, and I still managed to make these look okay. If I can do it, so can you! And they are happy spiders, not scary, because there are no scary ingredients in these hot dogs! We actually don't do the scary Halloween thing so these were just a fun treat that my daughter was super excited about. Just to clarify, these are not Whole30 because of the dough.
The dough is nut free if you use coconut milk in place of the almond milk. The gelatin in the dough helps hold it together as paleo dough is more delicate than traditional dough. I feel good about my daughter eating these because the hot dogs are made with quality ingredients and the dough is grain free. She loves them because they are fun and delicious!
If you are not familiar with Teton Waters Ranch let me tell you a little more about this great company. They make high quality, great tasting sausages and hot dogs. All their beef is 100% grass fed and their cattle never receives antibiotics or hormones. They are Certified Humane which means the animals get the best food and care. All of their dinner sausages and hot dogs have no sugar added and are Whole30 compliant (minus the ones with cheese). HERE is a store locater for where to find their products. I have found them at Meijer and Costco here is Michigan. Head to their site and sign up for their newsletter for updates and fun recipes.
I hope you try one or both of these recipes. I think the pumpkin chili will become a new favorite and your kids will love the spider hot dogs.

- Once browned, add the sausage, pumpkin, tomatoes, green chilis, chives, salt, oregano, chipotle powder, ancho chili powder, cumin, paprika, 1 cup water and pepper. Stir well and cook 15 minutes or until desired. At this point, everything is cooked and if you cook it longer the flavors just develop more. Take it off the heat and serve.

Paleo Spider Hot Dogs
Ingredients
- 4 Teton Waters Ranch Hot Dogs or Sausages
Dough
- ¼ cup coconut flour
- ¼ cup flaxseed meal I prefer golden for the best color
- 1 teaspoon grass-fed gelatin
- ¼ teapsoon salt
- 3 tablespoons almond milk*
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon honey optional
- 2 slices black olives cut in half
- 4 grape tomatoes ends cut off
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375° and line a small sheet tray with parchment paper. Set aside.
- Cut the hot dogs into spiders. Leave 1 inch in the center completey intact. Cut each side into quarters by making two cuts each. Set aside.
- Make the dough. In a medium bowl, combine the coconut flour, flax seed meal, gelatin and salt. Mix well. Add in the almond milk, egg and honey (if using). Mix until well combined and dough holds together. Divide into 4 equal portions. Take each piece and patty it into a strip about ⅓ inch thick and wrap it around the middle part of a hot dog. Squeeze to make sure it's tightly sealed. Repeat with remaining dough and dogs.
- Cut the ends of the grape tomatoes and use those as the eyes. Gently press them in. Use the black olive half and the smiley face. Bake 17-19 minutes, until legs have separated and dough is golden brown.

We made the chili portion last night and it was delicious. Spices were well balanced and I loved the smokey flavor. I've been searching for the right chili recipe and this one nailed it!

I saw on the Monash app that chipotle powder is now considered high fodmap. I have measured out the quantity to see yet but wondered if you knew about it.
Janet Carmichael says
Updating my comment: The app gives a yellow sign for 1 tsp. With the quantity in the recipe spread over 8 servings, should be good!
